Amplifying Voices: Addressing the Criminalization of Somali Youth and Women in Canada
This report presents findings from a qualitative research project focusing on the experiences of Somali youth and women within the Criminal Justice System (CJS). The project aimed to provide a platform for participants to share their lived experiences through focus group sessions and interviews conducted both in person and via Zoom meetings. The insights gathered have informed this Impact Report, highlighting specific recommendations addressing systemic barriers, emerging themes, and inequities contributing to overrepresentation. The report aims to advocate for policy recommendations to government entities, funders, service providers, and the legal community.
